Gukesh Dommaraju Becomes Youngest World Chess Champion at 18

Gukesh Dommaraju, an 18-year-old chess player from India, made history by becoming the youngest-ever undisputed world chess champion. He won the title by beating the current champion, Ding Liren, 7.5-6.5 in the final of the World Chess Championship in Singapore.

The match was tied before the final game, but Gukesh took advantage of Ding’s mistake and won the crucial point. Gukesh was so happy and emotional after the win. Fans in India celebrated loudly as he became the second Indian to win the world chess title, after Viswanathan Anand. He is four years younger than Garry Kasparov was when he first won the world title in 1985. 

In his press conference, Gukesh said he had been dreaming about this moment for more than 10 years, ever since he started playing chess at the age of six and a half or seven.

At the press conference, Gukesh revealed that he had envisioned this achievement since he began playing chess at about six and a half or seven years old, a dream over a decade in the making.
